Hardwired for paradise!
All of us human beings share one thing in common we are all ‘Hardwired for paradise’. What do I mean by this? When God created mankind he sewed into the very fabric of the human heart the desire for paradise. In fact Eden was just such a place it literally was paradise. Mankind needed to look nowhere else for anything else, Adam and Eve were literally ‘living the dream’. The garden was a place where earth and heaven looked identical. We all know the story didn’t end there!
Though many of us, both believer and non-believer may deny it, but, we are all still longing for ‘paradise’. We have in our hearts and minds a picture of what our ideal life would be like, the type of house we’d love to live in, the style of holidays we really want, the perfect job and the list goes on.
On Sunday we continue to explore the book of Ecclesiastes and in particular we will look at Solomon’s ‘Pursuit of Pleasure’, His quest to rediscover ‘paradise’. As we read this book we come to understand that though he was possibly the wealthiest and wisest king that has ever lived he finds himself thinking ‘there must be more than this?’. Solomon’s struggles challenge us to ask the question – What are we pursuing with the hope of realising our dreams and so discovering paradise?
