Creativity is not primarily a human skill, attribute or invention but an expression of the nature of our great God in whose likeness we are made. It is from His pen that the best stories come, He even writes us into salvations story. With bold and complex sweeps of colour creations canvas draws us in, it testifies to God Himself (Romans 1:20).
Poetry, prose and song live in His heart and are declared in the pages of His greatest book the bible. He’s an architect, His amazing imaginative and absolute precision displayed as He downloads the plans of the temple to Moses. He makes music, in psalm 98 He calls for creation to burst into jubilant musical celebration. Restoration and rebuilding are equally His forte; redemptions story most beautifully unveils this part of His creativity. He is a skilful surgeon, the first to transplant a new heart for an old. So His creativity goes on, it truly is endless. He is Elohim the God of creation.
We thank God for the gifts and talents that He has deposited in our hearts and this Advent, the four Sundays up to Christmas, we are planning to use our creativity to tell the story of Christmas. Each Sunday, we will communicate the theme that the Lord has laid on hearts in a creative way using through song, story, visually and using some drama. All of these Sundays provide an opportunity to bring friends and family to hear and see and sense the message of Christmas.
The themes of our four Sundays are;
Hidden – God hides Himself in a feeding trough in a stable
Waiting – God creates anticipation by asking us to wait
Humility – God comes to gives Himself away by emptying Himself
Misunderstood – God, by our standards is not plain and straightforward
All of these themes run against the tide and flow of our 21st century culture, they are counter to this present culture. Our prayer is teach us Lord!
