Silver Saturday 2024 shone brightly as we celebrated a wonderful variety of ways to be creative and fruitful, and have fun in later life. Over 100 people came along to enjoy an afternoon overflowing with music and talent – and an abundance of delicious cakes! Kingswinford & District u3a proved themselves to be an organisation full of life and vibrancy as they showcased their Art & Craft Groups, and advertised the many other activities they have on offer to those in their retirement years.
The happy chatter throughout the afternoon over drinks and cakes was interspersed with music, firstly from Greenfield Singers ladies’ choir who presented a lovely programme of songs with opportunities to sing along. Our very own Peter Clay saved the day by deputising for the choir’s pianist who had been taken ill earlier on in the week. He did a brilliant job at very short notice! Then later our longstanding friends the Kingswinford & District Strummers, decked out in their brightly coloured Hawaiian shirts, played their ukuleles and sang a great selection of 60s classics – their enthusiasm was infectious and soon everyone was joining in!
The Bible tells us that “even in old age, we can bear fruit and stay fresh and green”, and judging by the buzz at Silver Saturday, there are lots of people in later life who are out there living life to the full!
