Isaiah 53:6“All we like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way, but the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him”.
On Sunday we continue our short Easter series looking at the question; Why did Jesus have to die? Last week David enabled us to look at the question from the Fathers perspective. This week we take a look at this question from our perspective, mankind’s perspective.
This is the one verse in the whole chapter that explicitly talks about us. Just one verse out of twelve. In fact God, in the form of ‘His’, ‘He’,’ Himself’ or ‘Him’ is mentioned 48 times, we are just mentioned 8 times. That makes the chapter, 6 times more about ‘Him’ than ‘Me’!
In verse 6 the writer sums up ‘US’, that’s you and me and the whole of the human race. ‘All we…’ verse 6 starts, that is the whole of humankind. We wandered off, we strayed, we went our own way, and we got lost! So what does it mean to be sheep? What does it mean have gone astray? Have ‘each of us…’ turned to our own way? How can we find our way back?
On Sunday we explore these questions and also be blown away by the shepherd who becomes like us… a plain old sheep, or so it seems!
