I’m sure that, like me, you learned songs when you were little that still stick in your memory many years later. One that my devoted Christian parents taught me was called “The Best Book to Read…”
Oh, the best book to read is the Bible
The best book to read is the Bible
If you read it everyday
It will help you on your way
Oh, the best book to read is the Bible
I have taken the message of that memorable little chorus into my adult life and, having tried to read and understand the Bible as much as I can, I have found this simple children’s song to be absolutely true. Thanks Mum & Dad!
I have been reading the Bible for many years now and there are still depths of wisdom and understanding that I am tapping into every day to help me on my way. But I’ve found it to be much more than a helpful guide or instruction book for life. It actually helps us on our way to discover what God is like, why he created the world and how we can know him.
Is that even possible!? Surely the God who created the universe is way beyond our knowledge or understanding. So wouldn’t it be incredible if we could find out from him what he is really like? As Christians, one of the primary things we believe is that we can see what God is like not only in a general way through observing the world around us but in a very specific way through reading the Bible. What an awesome thing to have God communicate in such a way with us; the people he has lovingly created to be in relationship with Him!
Amazingly the Bible remains the World’s best seller but reading and understanding it is not always an easy task because it was written so many years ago in very different times, languages and cultures from ours. So we need a bit of help to get the most out of this amazing collection of God-inspired books. There is so much wisdom and treasure from God in these pages that it is well worth the effort to try and understand more fully what it meant then and even more importantly what it means for us today.
That is the purpose of The Bible Course. It’s a very accessible series of video and discussion sessions designed to give a clear overview of the Bible from beginning to end and pick out the important themes and stories which will help us understand God’s plans for the world and for us.
Even if you’ve been a Christian for many years, the course gives refreshing insight into the overall picture of God’s story of love for his world and his people. And if it’s all new to you or you’re just interested to find out more this is a really good place to simply discover what the Bible really
says.
