How do we define what the Christian faith is? This (seemingly simple) question is both very important and also potentially tricky to answer. We know that its about following Jesus, but who is Jesus? And we know it is about being reconciled to God, but who is God? What do we have to believe for our faith to be recognisably ‘Christian’? What way of living is faithful to Jesus?
As Christians, there are many things we can disagree on whilst remaining united, but there are primary issues that ground who we are as a community. We, as an eldership, have said that our primary issues are defined by the EA statement of faith and the creeds. This is another way of saying that it is the creeds that define for us what Christian faith must consist of if it is to be Christian. In this whole church teaching, Tim Murray, David Faulkner and Adrian Lowe help us journey through the Apostles Creed, to understand what it says, why it matters, and how it helps to define our identity, worldview and way of life as a Christian community.
