Silver Saturday 2025 report by Catherine Griffiths

On Saturday 27th September, over 80 ‘shiny happy people’ met together for the afternoon to celebrate our annual Silver Saturday event! To start Dudley Council’s Ageing Well festival week, organisations such as Your Health Dudley, Park Active, Action Heart and Kingswinford u3a came along to share advice and support on how to remain healthy and happy in later life. The crowd that came along certainly seemed a lively and thriving bunch of local residents!

During the afternoon there were interactive sessions from a Gentle Exercise Class for the 50 plus and from Kingswinford u3a’s Singing for Fun group. It was good to have a go at the line dance ‘workout’ and to singalong to some favourite tunes, with both sessions leaving everyone smiling!

As always, the café proved very popular with such a variety of delicious homemade cakes to choose from (there were some healthy options too from the calorie-conscious bakers!). It was good to see so many people chatting together over a cuppa and cake and enjoying each other’s company. A wordsearch on healthy living kept many people absorbed, especially as there was chance to win the Silver Saturday Secret Surprise bag! The winner whose name was drawn from all the entries at the end of the afternoon was delighted to walk away with all her ‘silver goodies’! Hopefully everyone went on their way home with something good, whether that be some advice on how to age well or just with a pleasant memory of a happy afternoon spent in the company of friends!
